Whether you’re a college student looking for their first role out of school or an experienced professional, the way to find and apply for jobs has one constant: change. Without aging ourselves, we used to have logins for every single job website (looking at you, Workday), and LinkedIn Jobs was non-existent. Now, it seems like a hot new job board or a way to find roles pops up all the time. Here are two lesser known websites we recommend:
Built In
Originally a platform to share news about startups and tech companies in different cities, Built In now operates tailored websites for 11 cities and a remote repository, plus tens of other offshoots for smaller cities. You can filter across multiple jobs and criteria, and, similar to LinkedIn, you can easily do some research on the job and company you’re applying for.
Otta
Otta takes the swiping craze of dating apps and applies it to jobs — you receive curated roles tailored to your preferences and can swipe through them and quickly apply via Otta or on the company’s website. This is the most curated of the three, and it works. Otta will recognize if you are skipping specific roles or industries, update your preferences, and follow up on whether you heard back. This is one of our favorites because, well, you actually hear back from roles that you apply for. Nothing is worse than sending applications out, never to be heard from again. Each role has data on how many and when candidates hear back, which is helpful in keeping expectations in check.
🚨 Sneak peak 🤫- stay tuned for a specialized Extant Jobs board coming your way soon 🚨
Quick tip of the week:
If you already have specific parameters for your search, here’s an incredible hack: use a boolean search on Google for websites like Lever, Greenhouse, or Bamboo. For example, if you were looking for a Product Manager role in NYC or remote on Greenhouse, you would search something like the following:
("product manager" OR PM) AND (remote OR "New York City" OR NYC) site:greenhouse.io
This will pull up all roles that match the parameters, regardless of company. An AI tool like ChatGPT can help you refine it with more keywords, but a simple one like the above can get you started.
